Beware of Storm Chasers in Sunbury, Ohio

Warning to homeowners about storm chasers in Sunbury Ohio

Warning to homeowners about storm chasers in Sunbury Ohio

Have you been approached by a someone claiming they can have your roof replaced for free recently? A small hail storm passed through town a few weeks back and we’ve noticed this happening to a few of our neighbors, so we’re here to share our thoughts and some advice on how to handle these pop-in roof inspections.

Storm chasers are the salespeople for local roofing companies who are highly incentivized to tell every homeowner they have hail damage and claiming that they can work with your insurance company to replace your roof for free. In some cases, this is true, but we’ve been out to inspect dozens of roofs in the area over the last few weeks and have not seen significant hail damage done to a single one. Storm chasers will typically target homes with roofs that appear to be at least 10 years old.

The hail we saw was pretty small, and the storm passed through town rather quickly, so it’s very unlikely anyone experienced any significant damage to their roof. Be weary of who you allow on your roof to inspect damage that may have been caused by a recent storm. A lot of times they’re just out to make a quick buck, and the process can be painstaking for homeowners.

If you’ve been visited by one of these storm chasers lately and want an honest second opinion, or if you think your roof might be damaged, we’re happy to help. Contact us today.
