4 Roofing Problems to Look Out for After A Severe Rainstorm

Living in Ohio, we know that storms are common, especially throughout the summer months, which could create some pretty serious damage to your roof.
The damage left in a storm's wake can result in something as simple as a missing shingle or as serious as a roof leak can lead to damage on your roof. When the structural integrity of your roof is compromised, you risk having to deal with a number of expensive repairs or even a roof replacement.
If you want to get in front of a potential issue with your home, here are a few roofing problems to look out for after a big storm!
#1 - Loose Debris in Yard or Visible Damage
After a storm, do a perimeter walk around the house. Check to see if you notice any pools of shingles in the yard, tree limbs on the roof, or dents in the metal (gutters, flashings, etc.).
#2 - Struggling Gutters
Gutters play such an important role in making sure that your roof is functioning properly and that your home is protected. When your gutters are clogged, they can’t do what they are meant to do, which is to carry rain runoff away from your roof and the siding of your home. If they are clogged and can’t do their job, you not only risk damage to your roof but damage to the foundation of your home. These are issues you don’t want to risk. #3 - Bent & Unsealed Flashing

This would include any openings or joints that would lead into your roof structure or home such as skylights, solar panels, vents, chimneys, pipes, etc. These would all create more punctures to your roof, ultimately meaning that you have more areas susceptible to leaks. The flashing is there to protect against damage, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t possibilities of damage to the flashing. If the steel becomes bent, rusted or loses its seal, it can lead to leaks in your home. Keeping an eye on your flashing is definitely an important part of storm follow-up.
#4 - Leaking Attic Ceiling
We know that not everyone has an attic, so this might just mean inspecting the ceiling in all of the rooms, but essentially, you want to be on the lookout for leaks if you notice rotting, stains or any other changes to the ceiling or walls of your home.
